We're in St. Louis, doing prayer meetings and staying in a host home. Lemme tell you about host homes. We travel a decent amount, with the Radiants, and often, we sleep in people's houses. Sometimes we sleep in twin sized racecar beds, sometimes we sleep in guest apartments, all kinds of houses and setups and families. I think I know how to work every kind of shower fixture in the United States, even the ones that have a little hidden ring in the faucet... half the team took baths before someone figured that one out.
Anyways, usually we live in a house for one night, maybe 2. So three weeks is asking a lot. Our hosts here have been super gracious, but man! monitoring toddlers in someone else's house is a hard job.
There are 2 golden retrievers here, a big beautiful sleepy one and a backup puppy, who was extremely excited when Toby moved in and now tries to hide behind the ottoman. Toby and Brynn both love the big dog. They pet him and talk sweet to him and try to ride him, occasionally. I am not a dog person, in fact, I am somewhat opposed to animals in general, but these are good dogs. If I were forced to have a dog or deny Christ, I would get a golden retriever.
Lord, I'm tired. If we do 21 days in Sacramento, I might just ask for a padded cell for me and the wee ones...
I love your blog! That's about how I feel about dogs too. I just don't really get the point of having a pet - they're extra work, they cost a lot of money, and they try to lick you! It's like the work of having children without the joy. Of course, some people get joy from them I suppose.
ReplyDeleteNext time Radiant does a Michigan tour you should come! And I'll get you a dog-free host home or padded cell, whichever is easier to find.
there is something special the lord has put in the heart of children... that desire to hug and squeeze and ride puppy dogs! lol or if your my son to sniff them and put their hand down their throats and ears. Yuck! i think he is going to be a vet when he grows up.
ReplyDeleteWow, I could have written this post myself. First encountered that type of shower in Iowa. One of my children learned to walk in someone else's house in Boston. We lived in a previously childless home in South Dakota for 4 months with our 1,3,5 and 11 year old children with an amazing and brave couple. Of course there were dozens of others, makes me tired to think about protecting other peoples houses from the kiddos. I was once persuaded in a weak moment into getting TWO puppies. When they were stolen a couple of months later, I rejoiced!
ReplyDeleteI have a solution...come hand out in KC with me!
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing. =D
ReplyDeleteI used to feel that way about dogs. Well, i still kind of do, but now that i have "working" dogs, i feel a little better about them. They have a job. Also, they live outside.
BUT i think dogs or cats or whatever are really good for kids. I'm not sure exactly why, but something about a good pet is good for a kid. Haven't you seen Where the Red Fern Grows? A boy should have a dog. Papa said so.
My childhood animal attachments all end in tragedy, violence, murder, abandonment or despair. Thus, I will most likely not get a dog for the kiddos. LOL. - Richy
