So, the crazy thing is nobody knows how to be a parent. We are actually
going trial and error on living human beings!
I mean, there's books and advice and grandmas and such.
But when you get down to it, you really have to figure it out yourself.
Poor babies.
Richy and I were talking about this last night... he just assumes I
know how to do everything.
Shoot, I'm bluffing!
I just feed him when he cries... change diapers... pat, swaddle, rock,
beg, plead, jiggle, bounce, cuddle, swing..... and again
And sometimes I wish there was someone else to take over.
But I am the mommy now. And it is what I wanted so desperately. And
really, even in the worst moments I am so happy to have my baby, so
happy to have made it here.

Since we're figuring it out- what do daddies do? I mean, with a
newborn. I want Richy to help but don't really know what I need help
with, you know?
And there's a lot of us new mommies out there.
So what can daddies do?

5 HOURS SLEEP IN A ROW!!!!
Oh, I feel like a new person! Amazing!
Last night we went to the Radiant concert at Freedom Fellowship. It was
awesome. A lot of Holy-Spirit ministry at the end.
Then Toby and I collectively melted down on the way home... he sounded
like it was the end. And I was so horribly sick... just my throat on
fire and coughing and so tired.
As soon as we got home, he was happy. Not even really hungry... he just
wanted to be home.

Oh, and then I took the REAL Robitussin. BIG difference. I still feel
better and it's been 8 hours.

Saturday, February 25, 2006

Sheesh. Still sick. I never get sick so it just bugs me so bad.
Richy will be home tonight. Hopefully he won't be sick too.
Because, ladies... ain't it true when a man is sick the world stops.

Hmmm... McGee and Me on TBN now... takes me back.

Friday, February 24, 2006

well, my throat feels a little better... I guess I should eat now.
And some OJ!

Men - take note. When we women are in here, over 100 comments before
noon. LEARN the ways of chatting....

I am sick. Coughing too much to sleep and very grumpy.
Toby had another good night, though.

Okay, back to trying to sleep.

Thursday, February 23, 2006

Toby slept pretty good. That being said, I am still tired.
Back in 2 hours or so.

9:45
Last night I followed a lot of advice I read online... I fed Toby at bedtime excessively, turned off the lights and TV and didn't talk. I then ignored him as he cried for 5 minutes.
Then he slept for 3 hours! hooray!
And the next two times he woke up I didn't turn on the light or talk while I fed him... and he slept good again!

Oh man I hope this is the real deal and keeps working.

Here's the deal with this guys day experiment. I just wanted to see
what they discuss without our input... It's very entertaining to me,
It's also entertaining when they make JOKING chauvinist statements... I
think guys are so funny...
So don't take it personally, gals. It's only one day a week.
I'll have to figure out something for the girls to comment /maybe they
can use a downstairs blog or something.

Toby has colic. I will once again make a request for a wet nurse.

Ok so here's the rules.

Only guys may post in this blog. They have until noon to get 50 posts.
If they succeed, women may not blog unless a guy specifically speaks to
them. This will be in effect until 5 pm.
If they fail, women are able to post as usual, although we have to try
to stick to guy-led topics.

* the 50 posts must be actual comments. Blog spamming will not count
* Women can announce their presence

I am completely sleep deprived. If I forgot to mention something....
mention it.

ah yes. If you guys make it, throw us a bone. We like to talk.

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Well, here ya go.

Toby has been sleeping for almost 4 hours.... does this mean he won't
sleep tonight?? And yet I am loath to wake him...
Oh, what a fun thing to say... LOATH....

Just went to check on the batch of cookies that were cooling....
strange. One has disappeared and R2 has chocolate on his face....
There's something here... I just have to put the pieces together...

grumble... grumble... yawn
back later

1:15
Howdy, folks.
We need more categories for the Bloggies... outside the box...
Tomorrow is the test drive for the somewhat chauvinist guys day.... We ladies can only speak when spoken to. Should be pretty entertaining. Unfortunately, Daniel and Richy will be out of town... But if it goes well, we'll run it again.

Toby is sleeping in the swing. As MC Shower would say... It's Shower Time!

Monday, February 20, 2006

I'll be back in a few.... Toby ruled the night like Dracula...

9:55
So here's the whatsit... last night T wakes up at 1 am for some food... I feed him and then he is uncomfortable and grunts and cries and so forth. So I am holding and patting and begging and pleading and so forth. And then- the OTHER adult in my home goes and sleeps in the other room... Some issues start to come up in my heart around 2:30. What can I say? It's a great time for introspection.
At some point T sleeps, then wakes up at 3:30 for some more. I decide at this point to bury the hatchet (figure of speech) and not mention the whole desertion after 2 nights spent sleeping soundly in a hotel room hundreds of miles away.
UNTIL (and this is what my brother Bob would call the Thar She Blows moment) he comes in this morning and says man am I tired! I didn't get enough sleep....
And I just calmly smile and say, what would you like for breakfast, dear? And while I'm cooking, is there anything I can pray for you about?? (just like Jesus)
Well, okay, it wasn't exactly like that. At all.
But now I can think better. You know, in Dr Laura's book Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands (which outrages my feminist sensibilties, but is right), she talks about husbands and wives- how the men work one job all day and the wives expect them to help at home... not that hubbies shouldn't help, but just bringing perspective to it...
So I guess what we need is a wet nurse, or a clone of me. That oughta do it.

Introspection aside, I will still accept the French Toast peace offering.

Pros and Cons about going to church vs. staying home....

Pros
• potential spiritual growth
• see my peeps
• maybe the pictures are ready and I can get them

Cons
• Have to get up
• Get everybody dressed
• Get everybody in the car
• No chillin in mi casita

well so far the cons are winning. You have one hour to convince me otherwise...
ah heck... my conscience is leaning toward going...

richy took this on the side of the road in Colorado City

well, it will probably be pretty slow in here... but the other one was getting too full.

Friday, February 17, 2006

Well, it's that time of year again for the first time!

The Bloggies! To be held at a random date in the near future!

Let's begin by nominating award categories, not candidates yet.

So put on yer duck hats and get ready to vote! Someday!

Jenna stats are in the downstairs post...
Happy Birthday to Kat!

Well, Leah got the first real smiles out of Toby last night... She was "eating" his cheeks.... you know the game, mommies. And there it was! So you better believe we've been munching on him since then.
Toby ate at 7 this morning and then woke up atg 9 saying I'M STARVING HELLO WHERE IS THE SERVICE AROUND HERE YOU AREN'T GETTING A TIP I'M DYING HERE and so on.
So I woke up and he ate for about 5 minutes and is not hungry anymore... busy... wants to look around.
Sleep. I knew him well.

I may go up to the hospital today and meet Jenna. If I do I'll take some pictures.

UPDATE:

Jenna Grace Davis is here!
8 pounds 6 ounces
20 inches long
3:46 pm

She's healthy and eating as we speak. Julie will be there through Friday night (sat morning??) and would love visitors (she's a party animal)
Room 251, Woodlands Hermann
(note from me: she loves chocolate covered strawberries... red might be her favorite color...

very interesting discussion today... let's continue in this vein unless Rob wants to suggest another...
Well, today should be the day. Pray for Julie as she gets ready.... Tim just called and her contractions were already 6 minutes apart before the Pitocin!

It's guys day today ... next week I have a cool idea but I can't do it today because we women will have to discuss Jenna and such at some point. But here's the jist of it: next weds, ONLY guys will be permitted to post. If, by noon, they have not reached a predetermined number of posts (30, 50??) then we can come in and have a hen party. But if they DO reach the magic number, then we women can only "speak when spoken to..." that is, answer a question posed to us by a male.

But not today. Because we might have to talk about childbirth. But until then, we will discuss the topic suggested by Robert Clark. Rob?

I already posted this once so if that one shows up, ignore it.

Happy Valentines Day

Well here it is! I was going to fast chocolate for a couple days to see if it affects Toby.... but Julie bought me Godiva! I'll have to start my break on Thursday or somehing...

Last night Tobes slept in his bassinet for 2 stretches... I just have to knock him out with feedings first....
great church service last night.... very accurate prophetic words, it seemed like. And Toby may have some rocker in him after all.. slept right through worship.

It was pretty neat hanging out with my sister Leah and her baby... both of us having small babies and just sharing that experience... don't know why but last night just was cool... like a new dimension to our relationship...

Have a good V Day everybody! Eat some chocolate! Buy some flowers! Or maybe a Venus Flytrap!

Monday, February 13, 2006

Toby has officially switched day and night... he's sleeping like the
proverbial baby now that the sun is up.
Now if I could just get R2 to do the same schedule, then all 3 of us
could sleep all day and party all night.
It's actually cute to look at him in the moonlight at 3 o'clock and his
eyes are WIDE open. It is not cute, however, when he cries and grunts
and fusses until the sun comes up.
Is he scared of the dark? Gassy? With what, vampire gas? Only afflicted
in moonlight? Hmmm... maybe a question for Batboy.

R2 is kinda sick. We aren't sure if he had a little seizure overnight,
but he's not really himself today. Although after his daddy prayed for
him for awhile, he recovered enough to punch him a few times and joke
around.

Oh, and Radiant will not be playing at CTK Tuesday... Chris is out of
town so it will be the CTK worship team led by Papa JC!

I went out once again with the young gents... we're all getting better
at it.
'Eres a new blog for ya, chums.

Friday, February 10, 2006

Yesterday we went to "run errands", which could really mean anything,
but involves leaving Midway in a car and being gone for some time.
Which is not hard to do since it takes 30 minutes to get to Walmart...
we ate at Fazolis with the lovely and charming Daniel... went to
Walmart to buy a pacifier.... they didn't have the itty bitty ones so
on to Target, where I bought a little one which still gags Tobias....
do I have to go to Babies R Us to get a newborn binky? Maybe so...
And the mall, where we spent pretty much the rest of the tax return...
R1 got a fancy haircut and some hilights and lowlights, which look
great!
And I bought R2 a pair of jeans at Gap.... I always buy everything on
clearance but these had An ADJUSTABLE waist!
Now, most of you have seen R2's pants falling down at church.... he's a
skinny kid. Well, hopefully this solves the problem.

and then it was off to the natural medicine doctor for the clan... and
we got some vitamins and whatnot and I got a chiropractic adjustment
which always scares me... but I feel better.
Today I may not do anything. It's raining on my tin roof, I have a baby
sleeping next to my leg.... life is good.

Thursday, February 9, 2006

So, Valentine's Day. Do you celebrate? Or do you consider it a
commercialized American ripoff?
Or do you consider a commercialized American ripoff and celebrate
anyway?
What was your favorite Valentines? What do you think is the perfect
gift?
oooooh girly girly la la la

what about you gents? What do you want? (remember we have some junior
bloggers- keep it G rated)

Wednesday, February 8, 2006

Now, let's say, hypothetically, that Valentines Day is a "woman's"
holiday.
What would a a "man's" holiday be?
Or has it not been invented?
What constitutes a manly holiday?

Tuesday, February 7, 2006

sheesh. I am having blog withdrawal. I told myself I could quit anytime
I wanted to.
Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
Blog on, my friends.

Monday, February 6, 2006

are against us... once the blog came back up, the wind blew out our
phone.
So I'm posting from Panera. Hope everything is operational soon.

Friday, February 3, 2006

Happy Friday, everybody!
I may blog some writing-ish stuff later.... it's percolating now.
But for now you'll just have to amuse yourselves...
see ya in there

Congrats to Josharoo and Shannon 2-24!!!

Toby has all the normal reflexes... looks great and is still 7 pounds... we think he's heavier but it's a different scale....
Not much to blog here.... Toby had a fussy night so I hope to sleep again somewhere today...

Wednesday, February 1, 2006

but first, a quick poll

Baby Peterson's Ultrasound... what will it reveal??
The baby is a girl
The baby is a boy
The baby is modest

Free polls from Pollhost.com

Toby has a doctor's appointment today -- pretty cool. We're taking him to see the doctor who took care of R2 and the twins at Hermann Houston.... what a gem that lady is.
But I will be out all day.
I'm counting on you, guys to stir up some trouble for me to die laughing at this afternoon.
Especially Big Daddy.

Peace, I'm out,
